Stefan Engels
Private Sector Specialist
UN Global Compact
 
Stefan Engels has over 20 years experience in the global health and development sectors. He joined Johnson & Johnson, the biggest healthcare Company in the world, in 1987 as a management trainee. Over the next 18 years, he rose through the ranks to work in several assignments in sales, marketing and general management, moving through various business units and geographical duty stations, including Germany, the Netherlands and the USA. Early on, he was strongly involved in the company’s business process restructuring and in their vast CSR activities.

In 2005, he left Johnson & Johnson to pursue a career as a consultant for private sector engagement in the development field. He worked as a strategy consultant for NGOs, designed public-private partnerships for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and he was the Project Manager for Europe’s biggest research project on CSR with INSEAD Business School. In May 2007 Stefan joined UNDP Kenya and was appointed their Private Sector Specialist, in charge of private sector policy, donor coordination for private-sector support, the UN Global Compact and UNDP’s Growing Sustainable Business initiative. He serves as the secretary of the Private Sector Donor Group and serves in the Steering Committee of the Global Compact Network Kenya. Stefan holds a BA in Business Economics and a MBA in International Organizations from the University of Geneva.
