Uganda parliament approves ADB loan (16/07/07)

The Uganda Parliament has approved the Government's request to borrow about sh135b from international banks for livelihood support programmes in the country.

The finance minister tabled the request for $42.4m and another $30m to be borrowed from the African Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development respectively.

The House, presided over by the Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, approved the request, but not without some dissenting voices calling for accountability for loans previously borrowed by the Government.
