Zambian economic growth cheers Nyanin (20/07/07)

Outgoing World Bank country manager, Ohene Nyanin yesterday said that it was humbling that Zambia rose from economic doldrums in the last four years whilst he has been in the country.

He said, when paying a courtesy call on North-Western Province Permanent Secretary, Richard Salivaji, that he was lucky that Zambia had managed to get back on track in it's economic management during his term.

Dr Nyanin, who next month takes up a new appointment at the World Bank office in Washington, decided to start bidding farewell in North-Western Province as it was there where he first understood Zambia's challenges.

"The boom in North-Western Province is the replica of what is happening in Zambia.

I am very humbled that it happened during my sojourn in Zambia. When I arrived in Zambia the country was almost on its knees. It's been good," Dr Nyanin said.

Dr Nyanin will be replaced by Kapil Kapoor from the Washington office.
