UN chief to discuss Zimbabwe with African leaders (20/04/08)

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said on Saturday he would discuss post-election deadlock in Zimbabwe with African leaders during a UN trade and development conference in Ghana which starts on Sunday.

"In the next few days I will be discussing with President (John) Kufuor (of Ghana) and other African leaders who will be in Accra the issue about Zimbabwe and how to get developments there back to normal" Ban told reporters on arrival in Ghana.

He is in the West African country for the April 20-25 UN Conference on Trade and Development which is likely to focus on high world food prices and is due to be attended by heads of state from Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Algeria.

The UN chief said he would discuss the post-election situation in Kenya and the violence in Sudan's Darfur region with African leaders at the conference, which is also due to be attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
