Zimbabwe: Development Association rehabilitates road (02/05/08)

Rehabilitation of the Mutero-St Davis Road in Chihota, which is being spearheaded by the Marondera West Development Association, is nearing completion.

Nearly 18 kilometres of the 23km stretch has been repaired as efforts to lure back public transport operators intensify.

Bus operators stopped plying the area due to the bad state of the road, forcing the development association to intervene.

The community in the area dug up the gravel to repair the road and mobilised help from well wishers in cash and in kind.

Association chairman Cde Felix Shonhiwa expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Transport and Communications for grading the road from Mutero turn-off right up to St Davids' school.

"We were fortunate to have been allocated a grader by the ministry and the community provided free labour for the rehabilitation" he said.

Cde Shonhiwa expressed gratitude to Marondera West Member of the House of Assembly Retired Brigadier Ambrose Mutinhiri and businessman Mr Solomon Chiriseri who donated fuel for the work.
